San Francisco’s Top 5 Neighborhoods for Trick-or-Treating

Here in San Francisco, we love to celebrate everything, including Halloween, so it’s no surprise why trick-or-treating is kind of a big deal for us.

Since falling to 3rd place on Zillow’s 20 Best Cities for Trick or Treating in 2016, San Francisco has once again reclaimed its position atop the list this year. Per Zillow’s Trick-or-Treat Index, based on regions that require the least walking and fewest safety risks combined with cities offering up the most candy, Zillow has been able to compile a list of the best neighborhoods within San Francisco for trick or treaters.

Below are San Francisco’s 5 BEST neighborhoods to take the whole family trick-or-treating this Halloween.

5. West Portal
Since the early 80’s West Portal has been a local favorite for trick-or-treaters. The neighborhood has hosts an annual Halloween block party on Wawona between 14th and 15th Avenue where sugar crazed kids can fill their bags with loads of candies and possibly get an opportunity to brave a haunted house complete with live actors and spooky decor.

4. Laurel Heights
Wedged between California Street and Geary Boulevard, Laurel Heights is a small family-friendly neighborhood with a mix of single family homes, retail spaces, and medical campuses. Relatively flat with wide streets, Laurel Heights is the perfect neighborhood for a leisurely trick or treating experience.

3.Golden Gate Heights
Overlooking the Sunset District and located just minutes away from Clancy’s Pumpkin Patch, Golden Gate Heights is maze of narrow meandering roads and parks perched atop hills like the beautiful Grandview Park. Trick or treating in this neighborhood can be quite tricky due to its hilly landscape and lack of parking and municipal lines.

2.Sea Cliff
Nestled between Lands End and the Presidio, and bordering the Outer/Central Richmond districts, Sea Cliff is a posh neighborhood is mostly flat (read: very stroller-friendly) and offers an abundance of candy. So much candy, in fact, that we think homeowners in this neighborhood could theoretically pass out candy into the wee hours of All Hallow’s Day.The chances of receiving a few regular-sized candy bars are pretty high, though most neighbors seem to head off to bed pretty early out here. May the odds be ever in your favor.

1. Presidio Heights
This mansion riddled neighborhood is a popular destination for early evening candy plundering on Halloween. Visit these homes to get a glimpse of luxury and soak in the lavish Halloween and Fall decorations. Many of the mansions sit on very large lots with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. This family-friendly neighborhood has easy access to the Presidio and Julius Kahn Playground to let the kiddos run around before/after trick-or-treating. (SO. MUCH. SUGAR. TO. BURN.)
