SF Weekend Guide: May 20-22
TGIF, San Francisco! It may have been a never-ending week for those of you nursing weeklong Bay to Breakers hangovers, but never fear, the weekend’s here! As usual, we’ve rounded up the top things for you to see and do this weekend.
Friday, May 20th:
If you haven’t gotten your fill of art with the opening of the new SFMOMA last weekend, the Artist in Residence Program at Recology San Francisco will be hosting three artists with the theme of recycling. The exhibits will be open Friday from 5:00–9:00PM and Saturday from 1:00–3:00PM.
For the artistically inclined, residence/SF will feature a free exhibition on Friday and Saturday: Constructed, instead?. Expect optical illusions, as the website notes the exhibit will highlight “constructed spaces, innuendos of depth and scale, and nonsensical narrative.”
The San Francisco SPCA is hosting an “out of this world” cocktail party from 6:00PM–9:00PM. The event features open cocktail and wine bars, vegetarian and vegan food trucks, live music, a photo booth, and more importantly, free adoptions during the event.
Macy’s Union Square is hosting a #GetYourDenimOn concert, with an exclusive DJ performance by Ruby Rose of Orange is the New Black. A $75 purchase of Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren is required for a ticket.
Public Works SF is hosting an Ultimate 80’s Party Friday night, with doors opening at 9:00PM.
Saturday, May 21st:
May 21st marks the beginning of Small Business Week. Over 20 neighborhoods will highlight local businesses with sidewalk sales to celebrate.
In the Mission District, over 60 bands will perform on stoops, porches and outdoor spaces in a festival called SF Porchfest. Music starts at noon.
In Civic Center Plaza, the 2016 Asian Heritage Street Celebration will take place from 11:00AM to 6:00PM. With unique Asian arts, dances, food and activities, the event is sure to be fun for the whole family.
Sunday, May 22nd:
There is a secret midnight bike ride taking place, and all you need to do is dress warmly and bring a functional bike. The location will be announced at noon on May 21st. Rent a bike from Bay Area Bike Share.
Everyone’s favorite DIY marketplace, Etsy, is hosting a pop-up market with over 60 local artists showcasing their wares. Pizza will be served, so come hungry. The market opens at 11:00AM.
RayKo Photo Center is hosting a “Zine Fest” on Sunday from noon to 8:00PM. Local and national photographers will be featured.
The Golden Gate Park Band will be celebrating Armenian Independence Day in Golden Gate Park’s Bandshell, with music singing and dancing. The festivities start at 1:00PM.
