A San Francisco Taco Tuesday Spot Worthy Of Your Valentine

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, we can all agree on one thing: Today is, above all, Taco Tuesday. ? And this Taco Tuesday, we’re highlighting a taco spot in San Francisco that’s worthy of your Valentine: Mezcalito.

Mezcalito opened in September 2016, and is first and foremost a cocktail bar with an inventive craft cocktail menu focusing on—you guessed it—mezcal! Mezcalito has 38 types of tequila (including Fortaleza Añejo!) and 48 types of mezcal on their menu. They also offer a mezcal locker program and mezcal tasting flights.

For cocktails, we tried and highly recommend the sweet and smoky Xoconostle Bramble (Siete Misterios Mezcal, St. Germain, xoconostle shrub, and lime juice) or Maracuya Sour (Siete Misterios Mezcal, maracuya puree, vanilla agave, lime juice, egg whites, peychauds bitters).

Mezcalito’s cocktails are not the only things it has going. The Oaxacan style small plates the kitchen is producing are incredible. From the Mashed Avocado to the Hamachi Ceviche, the small plates are amazing. And the tacos for your Taco Tuesday celebration? Even better. We sampled Mezcalito’s mouthwatering Confit Pork Belly Taco with guagillo pastor glaze, onions, and pineapple, and the Prime Ribeye Steak Taco with onion, salsa verde, and cilantro. You can’t go wrong with either of these options. The Tacos de Pescado and Confit Pork Belly Tacos cost $12, and the Prime Ribeye Steak Taco will run you $18. All are served on a plate of three tacos.

One of the most surprising (and delicious) items on the menu was the Gouda Burger with caramelized onions, lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun. It was so damn good. In fact, within a month of opening their doors, Mezcalito’s Gouda Burger ranked as one of the Bay Area’s 25 best burgers. Eating a burger on Taco Tuesday is a cardinal sin, but we won’t judge you for eating one at Mezcalito.
