Amazon is back with its second annual Prime Day, offering deals that beat Black Friday and Cyber Monday, making it Amazon’s largest shopping event ever. With products up to 60 percent off across the website, Prime Day is the perfect day to think about upgrading your home to a smart home with home automation devices. Splurge on these devices:
Amazon’s bestselling Echo (or, “Alexa”) has been cut by $50 ($129.99 — 28 percent off) for Prime Day, and is the easiest way for beginners to break into home automation. The Amazon Echo is a hands-free speaker you control with your voice, with commands like: “Alexa, find me a Chinese restaurant”, “Alexa, set a time for 20 minutes”, “Alexa, re-order paper towels”, “Alexa, order me an Uber”, or “Alexa, turn off the lights”. Alexa syncs with other smart devices, like Philips Hue (smart lights), Nest (smart thermostat, smart camera), and Samsung SmartThings.
Amazon has also slashed prices for its entry level Echo device, Amazon Tap, available for just $99.00.
Philips recently released a second generation set of Hue White lightbulbs that are compatible with Amazon Echo devices. Control your lights no matter where you are from your smartphone, tablet, or Echo Device. You can also set your lights on a schedule to turn on with your alarm, or to turn off at bedtime. Hue lights can also be used for home security while away. The Philips 455303 Hue White Starter A19 Kit is available for $79.99 plus free shipping, and new Prime members will enjoy an extra 25 percent off.
With the Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera, you can always see (in HD), talk and listen to, and play with your pets with a built-in laser pointer — no matter where you are. Prices have been cut by 33 percent for Prime Day to just $134.10.
If you haven’t already, upgrade your TV to a 4K Smart TV, with built-in apps like Amazon Instant Streaming, Netflix, YouTube, and more with the Hisense 43H7C2 43-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2016 Model), available for just $299.99 (18 percent mark-down). While 4K sets are becoming more and more common, it’s rare to see a 4K Smart TV this size at such a low price. The Hisense is one of the best budget TV sets available.
Not ready to take the plunge with a new TV? Make your current TV smarter with the Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote for only $34.99 (15 percent off). The Fire TV Stick is a media streaming stick, similar to the Chromecast, but infinitely smarter. The Fire TV Stick includes a Alexa-powered voice remote and 1GB of memory to install streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO GO, and Hulu, as well as games.
