San Francisco Weekend Guide: July 7th-July 9th
The weekend is nigh and hopefully your July 4th hangover has subsided.
Summer is in full swing in San Francisco, which means unpredictable weather, nonstop traffic, and tons of fun. If you haven’t started getting into the spirit of summer in the City, then we politely suggest that you rise to the occasion and begin participating in the exciting festivities happening around the Bay. This weekend features plenty of outdoor events that range from sporty to spectator and free to pricey. Moreover, this weekend (like most San Francisco days) will bring a substantial amount of food related affairs, perfect for your summer diet.
From French fries to Shakespeare, here is your lineup for the best events in and around San Francisco this weekend:
Friday, July 7th:
Shakespeare in the Park→ As part of the Yerba Buena Garden Festival’s summer program, theatre troupe Theatre Rhinoceros will perform a condensed and reinvented adaptation of Shakespeare’s play King Lear at Yerba Buena’s outdoor venue.

Sing Along→ Head to the historic Castro Theatre for some audience participation at their locally-loved sing-a-long series. This weekend’s sing-a-long will be the fan favorite The Sound of Music. Make sure to do your vocal warms up and dress like Julie Andrews.

Block Party→ Traverse across the Bay for Oakland’s monthly first Friday block party extravaganza. There will be tons of live performances and music, endless food and drink options, and a cheery crowd at this regional favorite.

To Fry For→ French fry fanatics rejoice. SoMa Street Food Park is hosting yet another food-specific blowout. This Saturday’s focus is your favorite fried potato delight. There will be an eating contest, all-you-can-drink beer for $30 extra bucks, and a mandatory disco dress code.

Sun Jose→ Trot on over to the southern corner of the Bay for a hot day of BBQ, classic cars, and an airplane show. In addition to this being a huge classic car event and aviation spectacle, there is a simultaneous Science, Technology, Engineering, Aviation, and Math (STEAM) Festival with plenty of booths to educate the kids and anyone who is curious. Bring a lawn chair to relax while listening to live music as you eat great food and sip on refreshing beverages.

Paris in SF→ An extension of their film-inspired series, the San Francisco Symphony will transport you to Paris for a Night at the Moulin Rouge.

Roller Race→This large destination event draws crowds of roller skate fanatics from all over the country. There will be a roller skating marathon and half-marathon early Sunday morning, which will be followed by a less rigorous roller celebration at Golden Gate Park.
