Don’t just spring forward–sail forward. Yes, the ship has sailed for winter and it’s time to ring in the springin’.

Two Sundays past, March 12, we lost one hour of sleep in the tradition of daylight savings. This stolen hour is the rude awakening that it’s time to wrap up your winter slump and spring to life.

If you’re anything like me, daylight savings knocked the wind out of your sails. But soft, I come bearing solutions. Cope with daylight savings pain by sipping on champagne… on the SF Sailing Company’s Golden Gate Bridge Champagne and Mimosa Sail. This easy, breezy two hour tour departs at 10AM on Saturdays and Sundays on the 41-foot Islander named The Privateer. Perhaps you are wondering: are bubbles, booze, and boats the proper remedy to your weekend morning hangover? I’ve done the legwork and the answer is yes.

This peaceful weekend joyride sets sail from the docks of Pier 39, cruising past the Embarcadero’s bay front landmarks. You’ll enjoy San Francisco’s iconic Fisherman’s Wharf without drowning in the sea of tourists while the charismatic First Mate, Caleb, charms you with vibrant anecdotes and beverages.

This bubbles-infused tour sails up-close to the Bay Bridge as it glides northbound. To the West you’ll enjoy an unobstructed view of San Francisco’s remarkable landscape. The sparkling skyline will render you mesmerized as you sip on sparkling wine. If you think Bay views are satisfying from Coit Tower or Treasure Island, then the view on the Bay will be an absolute slay.

In the tour’s climax, the Privateer approaches the Golden Gate Bridge in intimate proximity. During this dramatic moment, you’ll float into a dreamstate as you experience the historic bridge in its full majesty. This dramatic underbelly perspective beats any other view of the Bridge: Seeing Golden Gate bridge from Bakers Beach is one thing. Driving or walking on the Bridge is an experience that should hold primo real estate on your bucket list. But sailing on the Privateer with an unadulterated view is as inspirational as the bridge is monumental. It was one of those profound, cinematic City moments that reminded me of why my love for San Francisco runs so deep.

After the Privateer passes the Golden Gate, it begins its return to the docks as it passes the cliffs of Sausalito which have small water-level caves. To the East are atmospheric, natural views that contrast the urban westward views. This offers an artful aesthetic as the urban visual stimuli is backdropped by the hazy atmospheric perspective of Marin County’s hilly landscape.

The panoramic view from the middle of Bay is astonishing. Wherever your eye travels, you will find lush details that can be studied far beyond two hours. With all there is to take in, like Alcatraz and Angel Island, this could be an overwhelming sensory overload. However, the calmness of the spring morning temperament invites gentle waves that act as polite metronomes to rhythmically punctuate a definitively chill morning.

Two hours on the Privateer passed in what felt like minutes. I reflect on this ride brimming with gratitude; I’m glad that I rose early, swept my St. Patty’s Day hangover under the rug, and made my way to the water.

But most importantly, my Snapchat story was way better than any of my friends that day. Way better.
